Debby Young

Debby is a guest of the UBBT, a non-black belt, the first, in the UBBT project. She started the martial arts as a result of her interest in this project --and we anticipate that she will be the first person to go from white to black belt (4 to 5 years) with the UBBT.

Her first UBBT project was to have the Peace is More Important Than Punches flashcards translated into Swahili and donated to the Kenyan Library System. This is Debby's 2nd year in the UBBT. She resides in Sonoma, CA.

Joe Van Deuren

Joe started his school during the first UBBT --and has become one of the most creative and proactive teachers in the UBBT project. His Rain Barrel and Teacher's Helper projects have set a new standard for community involvement for the UBBT teams. Joe resides in Annapolis, MD. http://lifeartpeace.com

Matt Brown

Randy Edwards

Scott Provost

Scott Provost lives in beautiful Hilo, Hawaii. The UBBT 6 is his second UBBT.

Jennifer Dye

Chris Hadlock

Chris Hadlock has JUST started a new martial arts school in Folsom, CA. He's a training partner and friend of Coach Tom --and a veteran practitioner / teacher of the martial arts. Team 6 is his first official UBBT experience.

Carol Sue Rutledge

Carol is on her 2nd UBBT (she earned her 3rd dan in team 5). Carol is a Native American and has begun teaching martial arts on "The Res." she grew up in --in Northern, CA.

Chris Thorp

Chris Thorp is one of the few UBBT primary members who is not, yet, a black belt. He resides in Sonoma, California and this is his second UBBT.

Dan Rominski

Dan Rominski is a graduate of the UBBT 3 Team -and has re-enrolled on Team 6 to continue his training. Dan and his wife Kim (also Team 6) are two VERY proactive instructors -and pioneers in Project Based Leadership Training. Their school is located in Rutherford, NJ.

Nancy Walzog

Nancy Walzog, besides being an Academy Award winning filmmaker, owns two schools in New Jersey. Nancy has participated in every UBBT since Team 2. See her schools here.

Robert Barnes

Robert Barnes lives and teaches in Waco, Texas. He is the creator and host of Lessons for Your Life, a radio show which airs every Saturday at 8:30 a on 94.5 FM news/talk in Waco. See his school here.

Chan Lee

Chan Lee (see his school here) began his Tae Kwon Do studies at 5 years old. Chan is the former Wisconsin state Tae Kwon Do coach and has been featured in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and on CNN. He also appeared in MTV's "Made." Chan is a co-founder of The New Way Network.

Vic Magary

Vic Magary is a Team 3 Alumni and owner of Metro Martial Arts located in Columbus, Ohio. See a Vic-Video here.

Tom Callos

Team Coach Tom Callos, age 49 --and in a constant quest to get / be in shape, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. See his bio here.

Hal Gustin

Hal is on his 2nd UBBT --and is an assistant team coach to the program. He is the senior most member of the team, having started his martial arts training in 1958 (a year before Coach Tom was born).

Daniel Lee

Dan lives in Heidelberg, Germany. He has been studying the martial arts since the age of 8, having began his training in Malaysia. This is his first UBBT. See his website here.

Michael Evans

Mike Evans is a returning UBBT 1 team member. He lives in San Luis Obispo, by way of Waco, Texas. He's a veteran teacher and practitioner and as nice a person as you could ever want to meet.

Dave McNeill

Mark Goblowsky

Mark is an alumni of the UBBT program, team 2. He's an amazing man, full of talent and kindness. His website is here. This is NOT Mark, but he assures me a photo is coming.

Kim Rominski

Kim Rominski co-owns and operates The Dojo in Rutherford, New Jersey. Besides being a martial artist, Kim is an artist -and designed the UBBT's Team 3 graduate certificate. You can see the video "The Making of the UBBT Certificate" here.

Michelle Ray

Michelle is a new UBBT'r. She is a 51 year-young professional martial arts teacher whose specialty, as of late, is self-defense for women. Her school, located in Little Rock, Arkansas may be seen here.

Nathan Slater

Nathan is a veteran black belt who started studying with Coach Tom Callos at the age of 7. The father for 2 lives and trains in Reno, Nevada. An original member of Team 1, this is his second UBBT experience.

Rori Goetze

Rori is a longtime martial arts student and teacher, now 30 years young, who recently moved back to her hometwon of Reno, Nevada. She started her training under Tom Callos and Paul Reyes. This is her first UBBT.

Nevin Baskin

This is Nevin's 2nd UBBT. Nevin resides with his family in the small town of Hazelton, PA. His school's website can be seen here.

Chris Feldt

Chris Feldt owns and operates Samurai Karate Studio in Columbia, South Carolina. This is his first UBBT. See Chris' school website here.

Jeff Gendelman

Mr. Gendelman is a veteran martial artist (and a professionally trained Shakespearean actor) who lives and teaches in Foxpoint, WI. His school's website is here. This is his first UBBT.

Jeffrey Kim

Jeff Kim is a second generation martial arts teacher living in Elgin, IL. His school's website is www.buildconfidentkids.com. This is his first UBBT.

Chris Lee

Chris Lee is the sister of UBBT'r Chan Lee, a veteran martial arts teacher, and a school owner in Milwaukee, WI. She also once took Tom Callos on a run --because her brother told her to. He's not holding a grudge about it...

Duke Lee

Duke Lee resides in Milwaukee, WI. He works alongside Chan and Chris Lee.

Dani Carrol-Kooyman

Dani is a UBBT Graduate (Team 3) and, besides being a rock and rolling professional teacher of the martial arts, she is a professional musician, singer, songwriter. Dani met her husband, Larry, on Team 3 (wasn't her husband at the time). There isn't a member on the team that has a better voice and a meaner side-kick. See some other bio stuff on Dani here.

Joe Sherwood

The UBBT 6 represents Joe Sherwood's 2nd UBBT experience. Joe is the kind of teacher who gives everything; he has been a major supporter of the UBBT and Alabama Projects, donating extra time and resources at every turn. We're lucky to have Joe on the team!

Larry Kooyman

Larry is a UBBT Graduate (Team 3) and one of the most talented members to undergo the UBBT process. He's a national caliber competitor and athlete --and, by the way, he met his wife to be (Dani) in the UBBT.  Coach Tom has been heard to say, "He should have had to pay a LOT more for tuition." Larry is a professional teacher with Evolution Martial Arts in beautiful Sparks, Nevada with UBBT multi-graduate Ray Neill. See his bio and a film of his last ubbt test here.

Robbie McLaughlin

This is Rob's second UBBT. He is a professional instructor at Evolution Martial Arts in Sparks, Nevada --and has been a student of Tom Callos from before birth (Coach Tom knew his parents as 20-somethings and signed Rob up on a black belt program before he was conceived).

Mike Steiner

Mike is a veteran black belt and teacher/instructor at Evolution Martial Arts in Sparks, Nevada. This is his first UBBT. He doesn't have 4 heads....those are the Steiner boys in front of him.

Ray Neill

Ray Neill is a 3 (or 4) time participant/graduate from the UBBT. He is an Assistant Team Coach to the UBBT project --and one of those amazing people you just want to hang out with. Ray is the man depicted in the UBBT Team 2 Graduate Certificate (see it here), as he was instrumental in the construction of the first UBBT Alabama House Building Project.
